What We Believe

Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, TN

At Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, everything we do flows from one simple truth

“Christ Above All”

We are a Bible-believing Southern Baptist church joyfully rooted in the Baptist Faith and Message 2000—a clear and historic confession of faith that expresses what we believe about God, salvation, and the purpose of the church.

You can read the full Baptist Faith and Message on the Southern Baptist Convention website here.

Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. It reveals who God is, what He has done, and how we are to live.

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”2 Timothy 3:16

The Bible is the final standard for all matters of faith and practice.

God

We believe in one true and living God, who exists eternally in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is fully and equally God, perfect in wisdom, power, and holiness.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”Deuteronomy 6:4

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose again on the third day, and reigns forever as Lord.

“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”1 Timothy 2:5
“He is not here, for He has risen, as He said.”Matthew 28:6

Through His sacrifice, all who place their faith in Him receive forgiveness and eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer, empowering us to live in holiness, guiding us into truth, and producing spiritual fruit.

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”John 14:26

Salvation

We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. It cannot be earned by works or good deeds, but only through trusting in Christ’s finished work on the cross.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”Ephesians 2:8–9

The Church

We believe the local church is the body of Christ, made up of believers who gather for worship, teaching, fellowship, and service.

“Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”1 Corinthians 12:27

Our mission is to glorify God, make disciples, and share the gospel with the world.

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

We believe baptism by immersion is an act of obedience that symbolizes a believer’s faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

“We were buried therefore with Him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”Romans 6:4

The Lord’s Supper is a sacred remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice and a celebration of His promise to return.

“Do this in remembrance of Me.”Luke 22:19

The Christian Life

We believe every follower of Christ is called to live a life of holiness, love, and service, empowered by the Holy Spirit.

“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”Matthew 5:16

The Hope to Come

We believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal life for all who belong to Him.

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God.”1 Thessalonians 4:16

Our hope is not in this world, but in the glory to come when Christ reigns forever.

Our Foundation

At Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, we seek to live out these beliefs with humility and grace — keeping Christ at the center of everything.

“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be glory forever. Amen.”Romans 11:36

“Christ Above All.”

Our Motto

This simple truth sums up who we are and what we strive for—Christ first in our hearts, our homes, and our community.
